In short, answers. Most people requesting a private autopsy have unanswered questions regarding the cause of death.
A thorough examination of all external and internal structures of the body is completed. Sections are collected from internal organs to be processed for microscopic analysis. Toxicology and neuropathology will be submitted and evaluated when requested. After all testing is completed, results are reviewed and a report with the forensic pathologist’s final conclusion is presented to the family.
Yes, there is no part of the private autopsy procedure that would prevent viewing.
Only legal next-of-kin, following Colorado succession law, or authorized representative have the right to request a private autopsy be performed.
As soon as possible after death has been pronounced. It is preferable that the autopsy take place before embalming, but it will not prevent it from happening. In addition, private autopsy can be prearranged. Our staff will work with the funeral home of your choice to coordinate the timing of any arrangements. Local transportation to and from our facility is included.
